Interesting glimpse of history: "The sword and the garden" - about the first Moghul emperor
The Moghuls conquered India but I did not know that much in detail. This novel describes the life of Babar or Babur from a humble local lord in Uzbekistan, to the ruler of Kabul and who then becomes emperor of India. While he conquers an empire in my opinion he stays a lonely man pining for a city he lost.
I found it interesting to see how gardens and water were revered in Moghul culture. I recently saw a picture of Babar's garden in Kabul.
The novel is written from the first person point of view. It gives us a good idea what Babar thinks. More a history book in a memoir-style than a novel.
