Yorkshire and Italy as a backdrop for a great detective novel linking WW2 and the present day
Police detective George and his father attend the reunion of their regiment that his time is hosted by his father's former WW2 CO on his family estate. The old comrades from the campaign in the desert and in Italy catch up. On his way to the loo Bert sees something that looks vaguely familiar. Soon afterwards he is found in a ditch.
The story takes us from Yorkshire (I loved the dialect) to Italy. It is a complex story with a lot of world building and character building. And not the usual suspects you can see from a mile coming.
When you love the series Vera or Dazliel and Pasco you will like this book.
